How to verify song credits before sharing

To verify song credits, start with official sources. New-song information travels fast, but credits often travel badly. A singer can be confused with a featured artist, a lyricist can be omitted, and an unofficial upload can be mistaken for the official release. Before sharing a song’s facts, check the release source first.

A simple order to verify song credits

1. Start with the official release

Check the official artist, label, film or distributor release first. An official video, audio release or verified announcement is usually the strongest source for release status and basic credits.

2. Check official streaming metadata

Compare the released recording or album on Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube Music. Apple Music can show performing, composition, production and engineering credits when available. YouTube Music shows credits when the label or distributor supplied the relevant metadata. Spotify’s displayed credits also come from label or distributor metadata.

3. Compare important facts

For singer, composer, lyricist, remake status or release date, compare more than one official source where possible. If sources conflict or a role is missing, say it cannot be confirmed instead of guessing.

4. Treat fan discussion as a lead, not proof

Reels, comments, lyric reposts and fan pages can show what listeners are asking. They are not reliable evidence for publishing credits.

What Pearl of Sound verifies

  • Recording title, album or film and label where publicly listed
  • Visible singer, performer, composer, lyricist and production credits when official sources support them
  • An official listening or video route
  • Whether an original-versus-remake claim is supported by official release information

What we do not claim

  • Rumoured songs or future releases as confirmed facts
  • Full lyrics without a licence
  • Unverified singer identification from social posts
  • An original/remake answer when official evidence is unavailable

If credits are missing

Missing credits do not prove that a person had no role. Platform metadata varies by distributor and release. We mark information as unavailable and revisit it only after an official source updates it.

Checklist to verify song credits

  • Is this from the official artist, label, film or platform listing?
  • Does it name the exact song or version?
  • Is the role actually stated, or am I assuming it?
  • Can listeners use an official route to hear the track?
